The Deal You Can’t Unwind: “Why the Smart Cities buildout carries a risk most parties never price”
By Dr Lucas Root, PHD Smart-city projects are built around complex contracts, technology, finance and delivery models — but one critical risk is often overlooked: whether the communities living with these systems ultimately accept the deal. Dr Lucas Root argues that every major infrastructure agreement effectively has two signings. The first is legal, when contracts are approved and investment committed. The second comes from the public, whose ongoing acceptance ultimately determines whether an arrangement remains durable.
